Mentor
MENTOR
Through the Young Manufacturers Network, members have the opportunity to not just be mentored by an Industry Veteran, but to mentor future manufacturers as well by engaging with high school and college students. Our first round of mentorship is launching in the Fall of 2025, designed to connect Young Manufacturers with seasoned Industry Veterans. This initiative aims to foster growth, share knowledge, and strengthen our manufacturing community.
Program Timeline
Kickoff and Matching
Manufacturers of all ages are invited to join a matching session event in August. Before the event, both Young Manufacturers and Industry Veteran Mentors will fill out a survey to gather career interests, expectations, and other areas to determine best fit. Then in a "speed networking" format, manufacturers will get a feel for who they may be able to work effectively with in a mentor/mentee relationship. Pairs will be sent out via an email introduction by August 31 to begin scheduling One-on-One's.
One on One's
The Mentor/Mentee Pairings are expected to meet three times over the course of the program between August 31 and November 15 either virtually or in person. Pairs will use session one to set short-term goals, session two to discuss progress on the goals and build a career roadmap, and session three to reflect on any completed goals and map out long-term objectives. There is a short, three-question form submitted after every meeting to provide feedback and determine effectiveness of the meeting.
Friendsgiving Celebration
After their third meeting, Young Manufacturers and their mentors are invited to join the Friendsgiving Celebration on November 14th at the MANTEC Office. Pairs join in a potluck-style meal, enjoy fun activities, and be recognized for their involvement in the mentorship program.
Survey
Young Manufacturers and Industry Veterans are required to fill out separate surveys that clarify the success of the mentorship pairing and determine if they will continue the mentorship outside of the YMN-formatted mentorship program. If it happened that the pairing was a right fit, Young Manufacturers will work with the Mentorship Committee to find a mentor to work with on their short term goals and long term objectives.
Who can participate?
Mentees are members of the Young Manufacturers Network who are interested in growing in their careers and having accountability in reaching their personal and professional goals.
Mentors are those who have prior industry experience and may fall outside the Young Manufacturer demographics, but want to see the next generation of manufacturing leaders grown, developed, and set on the right path to grow in the industry.
Both mentors and mentees must dedicate time for two in-person events, and three in-person or virtual 1:1 meeting times and must be willing fill out surveys based on the effectiveness of the mentorship pairing.
